My Students

My students come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. Some of my Pre-K students come to me with a wealth of experiences such as daycare and camps. For others, this is their first experience away from home, and they are a bit wary of all the new friends who surround them daily. They work hard. They are eager and excited to learn.

Our school is a Title I school, and we have about 96% of our students who live at the poverty level.

As you can imagine, this has a big impact on the experiences that our students have prior to coming to us.

Taking all of these facts into account, it is my job and privilege to expose these young learners to as many positive social and academic experiences as possible while they are a part of our school community.

My Project

This project will have the potential to reach approximately 100 students in our Early Childhood and Autism classes. It will be stored and shared in an enclosed outdoor space accessible to all.

We are wanting to begin building an outdoor sensory area where students can explore, create, and self-soothe through sensory experience out of the classroom and in the sun and fresh air.

This is just our beginning building blocks but it will provide some fantastic choices for play, exploration, experimentation, and learning. Through the variety of activities, we hope to be able to find something everyone would enjoy.
