Our New Marching Band!

My students need new equipment for Marching Band! Marching snare drum harness, paint for the football field (we paint our own on an empty patch of grass), and reeds for our woodwind players!

My Students

My students face a lot of uphill battles just to make it through a normal school week. I teach at a low income high school where over 60% of the students are on free or reduced lunch. I often retire at the end of a long school day feeling defeated and helpless from the stories I hear regarding the home lives of some of the students I teach.

The shining hope through it all is the joy I see from my students when they get to play in band.

It is my 3rd year teaching at this school and I have witnessed the dramatic transformation of the band program during that time. Students love to come to my classroom to experience the joys of performing while learning valuable life skills that they can carry with them once they leave high school.

I am determined to return to school everyday and face the constant challenges with my students because I have seen how music can change their world.

My Project

Last fall at my school, for the first time in 14 years, the band put on a marching band field show! We had a dedicated group of 21 students working hard to make it happen. This upcoming school year we are hoping to have well over 30 participating in our field show!

This equipment is vital for making it possible for my students to perform.

The Snare Drum Carrier will be used for both Marching Band and Football Band to accommodate the increase in students performing. The students paint their own football field on an empty patch of grass for rehearsals, last season we went through over 20 cans of paint!

Finally, reeds for the woodwind instruments is an on going expense and I do everything I can to keep the costs down so students aren't excluded from participating because they can't afford to get new reeds. We appreciate your time and support!
