When they interact with these materials they are receiving the sensory input they need. From unpacking the picker uppers, to designing our hats and then to walking to the local park and neighborhood to collect trash. We filled 12 trash bags! And, gratefully, we have enough supplies to take us on our next field trip!!!\r\n\r\nBut most rewarding were the students responses: \"Our neighborhood looks better!\", \"Wow, I didn't know there was so much trash around our school.\", and \"There's so many cigarette butts and bottle caps, it's sad.\" Through \"action\" our students realized that small amounts of trash detract from the beauty of our neighborhood. Additionally, I believe for most of our student, they now see how throwing litter in the can is important. We will continue to learn so that it's also about reducing our use of single-use plastics as well. One step at a time. \r\n\r\nLast, to donors like you, this project has a resonating affect. Our students now have a community service project they can add to their resumes and job/college applications. Through minilessons that have built up to our walk in the neighborhood, students learned what community service is and how important it is to give back/volunteer. We were rewarded with a cleaner neighborhood and school campus.","fullyFundedDate":1759599908942,"projectUrl":"project/our-neighborhood-our-pride/9782027/","projectTitle":"Our Neighborhood, Our Pride!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. G","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7353569_orig.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1595625779974","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7353569"},{"teacherId":3020552,"projectId":9869059,"letterContent":"Mahalo for your generous support of our wellness-focused garden initiative. It was inspiring to see students slow down, connect with one another, and take pride in creating something living that they could care for. Many students shared that arranging their succulents—choosing colors, shapes, and designs—felt calming and gave them a chance to collaborate with classmates they don't normally interact with. Their laughter, conversations, and shared problem-solving captured exactly the type of community-building we hoped this project would spark.\r\n\r\nYour support allowed us to create a gentle, welcoming space where students could experience the joy of nurturing plants, building friendships, and expressing themselves through nature. My students were really happy to receive all the new supplies. In a room of newcomer learners who are adjusting to living in a new country, simple comforts such as water, snacks, tissues, a clean environment make a world of a difference. Thanks to your generosity, our new mini fridge is now stocked with water so students no longer have to leave class or go without hydration when the water fountains are unavailable. This has been such a game changer for them since it is hot all year round. The tissues and disinfecting wipes are being used daily, helping us keep our classroom healthy and reduce the spread of illness so students can focus on learning rather than feeling uncomfortable or distracted. \r\n\r\nThe organization tools, markers, fidget toys, calculators have also helped our classroom become a calmer, more structured learning environment. Students often want to wipe down their desk before and after class to keep our classroom clean and well maintained. Students are no longer as uncomfortably hot since they have cold water to help keep them cool. These small things are huge for students who are still building confidence in a new school and a new language. \r\n\r\nAs we continue our lessons, your donation ensures that students have the comfort and tools they need to stay present and focused on learning.
