Mrs. Sankey from Louisville KY is requesting musical instruments through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
See what Mrs. Sankey is requestingMy students need new bows desperately. We're working so hard the hair is falling out! It also doesn't help that some of these bows are older than the students. We also only have 5-6 mutes.

My students come from many backgrounds but share a lot of the same obstacles. Many of my students come to school hungry and can't afford enough to eat on a daily basis and rely upon the free breakfast and lunch. My students come to class in order to enjoy music and get away from their everyday problems they might have at home.
My students work hard to overcome their everyday life and focus on our orchestra program.
My students love to play their instruments and make music that sounds good. They are dedicated to learning their music and trying their best. It is their daily effort that inspires me to try and get more resources to improve their quality of music education while under my care. I can't always control what goes on outside of my classroom, but I can control what experiences my students receive while in it.
They need new bows so that they can play their instruments properly. Most of the bows our school owns have very little hair and have been used and abused. We also are in desperate need of mutes. We only own 5-6 mutes and many of our pieces call for them.
This project will help my student's sound improve and give them a better quality music education.
The bow can vastly improve the sound of a student or greatly hinder their sound. Over my time here I've already begun replacing our strings with better quality ones, now my next goal is to replace our strung out bows! Currently, we are so lacking in bows that many of our Viola and Cello players are forced to play their instruments with a Violin bow just to be able to play! Not to mention many of the violin bows we have to choose from are missing a lot of their hair and are bending the wrong way.
My goal for this is to help my students get the quality resources they need to feel pride in their program. Right now we are making due with what we have, and I want so much more for my students than just okay.
