I teach in an urban Head Start full day four year old kindergarten classroom. Head Start provides students from low-income families the opportunity to enhance cognitive and social -emotional development so that they may learn and thrive in a school setting. Our entire district receives free breakfast and lunch.
My preschoolers are energetic, curious and eager to learn.
They love hands on activities and exploring new things. Their wonder is contagious and I am both lucky and grateful for my students each year.
My Project
Play is the work of childhood and a vitally important part of my classroom. In the dramatic play center, my students get to explore roles and tools adults use. They get to dress up, assign each other roles to play, and act them out while learning to communicate, share, problem solve as well as help their classmates.
My students love acting out roles that they see in the community.
They can frequently be found making each other meals, conversing on play cell phones, and reading stories to their students. These costumes and kits will help them expand their play and broaden their imaginations in new and exciting ways.
