My Students

I have been teaching first grade for over 15 years. I currently teach in a Title l elementary school. My school works hard to build relationships with our 500 students, families, and growing community. We have an active parent organization who fund building wide assemblies, field trips, and provide school materials for many projects. Due to the needs of our families and staff, it has become difficult to get funds for classroom materials.

Teaching first grade is rewarding and hard work!

My students are curious, self-motivated, and active learners. I teach 25 boys and girls. We have many hands-on learning opportunities on a daily basis. Even though they love all subjects, reading is a class favorite. We spend much of our day engaged in read alouds, reading to someone, or reading to self sitting on the carpet or in a quiet space.

My Project

We spend a great deal of our day reading books in first grade! Each and every day the kids practice reading to themselves and reading to buddy. This year, I created a reading corner that includes a kid size couch and bean bag chairs. As you can imagine, the space is quite a hit! However, I noticed that some students like to read alone.

By providing my class with a reading nook bookcase, it will allow a safe place for a child to go and read to himself.

During our busy day, sometimes a child just needs a space to reflect, relax, or re-energize.
