Help keep us organized with a double-sided pocket chart for center choices and a space to put our belongings with a class set of seat pockets!
Our school district has taken on a new school building plan, promising that all city public schools will be 21st century buildings in 10 years.
Some schools will be shut down indefinitely, re-modeled and updated, or rebuilt completely. My previous school was sadly shut down at the end of the 2012-2013 school year due to the deplorable state of the building. I am grateful that I am able to remain within the same community at one of the other schools. This building plan results in students having to now transfer to one of the other schools in the community. This transitional phase is going to be tough for the students and families within the community; not just the transition of students but also while the schools are all under construction. My Pre-Kindergarten students are enthusiastic "college bound" learners! They are intelligent, young students, but the reality is their socioeconomic statuses and zip codes put them at an academic disadvantage as compared to their more affluent peers; now they have to additionally overcome the many transitions from this building plan. They are in dire need of having access to quality materials both inside and outside of the classroom. However, providing them with the supplies necessary to learn in this context is a struggle due to strict budget cuts.
To help with this difficult transition, I want to make sure my students have quality resources needed to start the school year off strong. My students would greatly benefit from having 1 double-sided pocket chart and 25 seat pockets. We will use the pocket chart daily as students make their center choices, visually reinforcing the understanding of the maximum number of students allowed per center. The seat pockets will be extremely beneficial in allowing students to keep their most used resources at their seat including journals, incentive tickets, name sheets, books. The seat pockets would eliminate the challenge of finding storage space and greatly reduce wasted time as students will always have what they need close by and readily available at their seat. The seat pockets provide students with an increased sense of pride, ownership and responsibility for their belongings.
Having a pocket chart and class set of seat pockets would greatly enhance our classroom environment and productivity.
My students are "college bound" learners who currently lack quality resources needed to support them in their academic journey. Please help provide my students with the tools needed to be successful organized learners.
