Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach first grade in a multicultural school setting in a high poverty demographic area. This is culturally and linguistically diverse first grade classroom that is striving to learn despite many obstacles faced in their daily lives. Ours is a K-5 school that is in a high poverty area and many students come to school with no previous school experience.

These children are not from typical families and many have no reading or learning materials at home; no way to learn organizational skills that will prepare them for the future. In this culturally and linguistically diverse classroom we are striving to learn and be organized despite many obstacles faced in our daily lives. As well as academic learning, it is important to become organized in our daily routines.

WE ARE A TOTAL MESS! My students need storage for supply essentials. We work at tables and have no room to keep books, pencil boxes, notebooks, journals and other important school supplies. We have no cubby space, and are using old science kit storage wire racks to store our backpacks. On these there is no room for other essentials. My students need a variety of supplies and materials to aid them in organizing their day to day essential work supplies. The students are getting frustrated with the clutter and ask every day if there is some other way to get more organized. Most of them try to keep their tables organized, but is is difficult. These chair back pocket organizers will help us with smooth transitions from subject to subject with less teaching and learning time lost. The chair pockets will get us on the road to being organized in the classroom and will help make transitions from one activity to another smooth and quick.

You, the Donor, are the key to our organizational success. You can help give early organization skills to these students with your generous donation. These chair pockets hang on the backs of their chairs and have space for pencils, journals, reading books, notebooks, and other important learning tools. They will help finish teaching the organizational skills I have only begun to introduce. Thank you for your donations.
