At the start of the school my class was struggling with reading. I cleared my afternoon schedule and got help from the Reading Interventionist and also joined the Read to the Finals program to inspire my students. I also added flex seating and cabinets to fill them with books. It worked because students are now enjoying their reading time.\r\n Before our flex seating students were sitting under their desk and reading on the floor. Now students have many different seating options throughout the day, and they decide which seat in our classroom will work best for their learning style. Students are not tied to sitting on a chair at a desk while they learn. We have LOVED this change in our classroom, and it has worked out fantastically.\r\n Lastly, as we end the school year all students increased their Dibels reading fluency. Also, we went from 13 students below grade level to only 4 students. We also increased our benchmark in Reading and actually for the first time had higher scores than Math. Again, I just want to thank you!\r\n\r\n\r\n.","fullyFundedDate":1738965014222,"projectUrl":"project/benefits-of-flex-seating/9065284/","projectTitle":"Benefits of Flex Seating","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Vance","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2164580"},{"teacherId":2164580,"projectId":9022135,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your support in getting our flexible seating. My students love to sit and use them for collaborative learning. They have used them in writing where they get together and read each other's story and make corrections. They have also used them in partner reading of our novel. They get together and take turns reading to each other and it has really helped them learn to take turns and listen to each other.\r\n Sometimes they just want to get out of their seats and do their work in the flex seating. It has really helped them stay on task. My students have shown growth in their learning, especially in Reading. Flexible seating has been a positive change in my classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1739068684985,"projectUrl":"project/collaborate-learning/9022135/","projectTitle":"Collaborate Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Vance","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2164580"},{"teacherId":2164580,"projectId":8977453,"letterContent":"I would like to thank you for your generous donation of our sewing machines to our classroom. Your contribution has made a significant impact on my student's learning experience. With these sewing machines my students have had the opportunity to explore their creativity and develop valuable skills that will help them in the future.\r\n It has been a joy to watch them gain confidence in operating the machine. Seeing the excitement on my students' faces as they work on their projects has been really rewarding. Some have even searched for their own projects to continue their exploration using the sewing machines. The excitement and enthusiasm they show during these lessons are a testament to the effectiveness of these materials.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has truly made a difference, and we are so grateful for your investment in our students' education. They are a big hit with all the students and are used daily. Throughout the day I have them take turns. Students will get their partners and sit two to a seat and take turns reading. Since we received the bean bag chairs , students ask if they can sit and listen to their books or just read independently. \r\n I can see the benefits of flexible seating. It has helped encourage my struggling readers to be willing to sit and listen to books online. It has made a big difference because they are collaborating and working with each other. They have increased their participation in class and seem to enjoy independent reading time. \r\n Finally, because they spend so many hours in the classroom it gives them a break to sit in a comfortable spot and learn. Again, thank you for bringing smiles to my students' faces.","fullyFundedDate":1734099479721,"projectUrl":"project/today-a-reader-tomorrow-a-leader/8976104/","projectTitle":"Today A Reader - Tomorrow A Leader","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Vance","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2164580"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_58505","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":371,"numTeachers":32,"percentFrplEligible":56,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":4,"percentWhite":2,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":91,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"11.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":64.6,"schoolId":58505,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Fowler Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Fowler Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/arizona/fowler-elementary-school-district/fowler-elementary-school/58505"}
