My Students

Our school has around 1,200 students enrolled in pre-k through 8th grade. Our school has a diverse population with 95% of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch. Many face challenges in and out of school and in their homes. School is a place of refuge for some. We celebrate diversity and build understanding through our unique and shared stories! We believe that every individual is a work of art who brings value to our community.

We are in the midst of our year-long journey of returning back to in-person schooling.

Every day is full of new experiences and challenges. I know that my students are willing to work hard, take risks, and make incredible progress.

If I had to describe my students in one word, it would be "amazing!" They are determined, dedicated, enthusiastic, and engaged.

My Project

My students are growing up in an extraordinary world. There are so many amazing individuals across various ethnicities, careers, and genders that have helped to shape the world that we live in today. I want to expand my students' knowledge of some of those amazing people by creating a library of age-appropriate biographies for them to read at school and also at home.

Students will be able to read and share with other students and their parents, the stories of the ordinary people that succeeded at extraordinary successes, no matter what their path to growing up looked like.

I am hoping to get books of many different people that have changed our world in one aspect or another! Some books I have requested are about Martin Luther King Jr., Simone Biles, Harriet Tubman, and Gandhi to name a few. These are all people my students have asked me about at some point this school year, I cannot wait to get these books into their hands!
