After a very rough year, all of our classroom materials had been completely depleted by December 2025, and we returned from winter break worried about how we would continue providing engaging phonics instruction for our students. When these supplies arrived right after we came back from vacation, it truly felt like a fresh start for our classroom. The moment the boxes came in, my students immediately gathered around asking what was inside. As soon as I opened them and revealed the whiteboards, markers, and erasers, their faces lit up with pure excitement. Their enthusiasm reminded me just how meaningful these resources are for young learners.\r\n\r\nWe now use the whiteboards every single day during phonics instruction. Students practice spelling patterns, sounding out words, and writing phonics skills in a way that is interactive and engaging. The whiteboards make it much easier for me as the teacher to quickly see each student's work and immediately correct mistakes or provide support when needed. Beyond phonics, the students use the boards while working with partners to revise and correct writing, play reading and spelling games, and participate in informal assessments that help me check for understanding in real time. I also encourage students to attempt spelling unfamiliar words on their own first before I come around to help them write the correct spelling, which has helped build their confidence and independence as writers.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, these materials will continue supporting our growing literacy skills in so many ways. Our students are becoming more confident readers and writers because they are able to practice in a hands-on, low-pressure way every day. We are currently working on strengthening decoding and spelling skills through small group activities, partner games, and interactive writing practice, and these whiteboards are at the center of all of it. Your generosity has not only provided supplies for our classroom, but it has also brought excitement, confidence, and renewed energy back into our learning environment. Thank you for investing in our students and helping make learning feel fun and meaningful again.","fullyFundedDate":1771785024674,"projectUrl":"project/building-responsible-readers-one-whiteb/9943283/","projectTitle":"Building Responsible Readers, One Whiteboard at a Time","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. S.Gómez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3658003_orig.jpg?crop=1953,1953,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1646364014192","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/s-l-gomez"},{"teacherId":10078593,"projectId":10159735,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support of our classroom. Because of your donations, my 7th grade ELA Group E Multilingual Small Group now has access to a diverse collection of independent reading books in English, Arabic, and Spanish. These books have transformed what reading looks like in our classroom. Students are more engaged, motivated, and excited to read because they are finally able to choose texts that reflect their identities, languages, and lived experiences. We've been able to build skills such as comprehension, vocabulary development, and making text-to-self connections in a much more meaningful way.\r\nReading time in our classroom has become a space of joy and connection. Students participate in discussions, share recommendations with peers, and take pride in finishing books that they truly enjoy. I have seen students who were previously hesitant readers become more confident and eager to participate. One student shared how reading in their home language helped them better understand the story and then connect it back to English, strengthening both their literacy skills and confidence.\r\nThis project has done more than provide books. It has created a sense of belonging and empowerment in our classroom. Your generosity has allowed every student to see themselves reflected in literature and to feel valued as readers. Seeing stories that resonate with their language and culture has sparked a genuine love for reading that wasn't there before; they aren't just decoding words, they're actually getting lost in the narratives.\r\n\r\nTo support this growth, we've integrated vocabulary notebooks—also provided by our donors—which serve as a personal roadmap for their language development.
