Orchestra Tuning Snarks!

My students need these Snarks so they can become confident and self-sufficient in tuning the violin, viola, cello, and bass!

My Students

Our school is over 90% free-and-reduced lunch and a Title I School. The neighborhood surrounding us is very diverse. Most students' parents work full-time or students come from single-parent homes. Despite these factors, many of the orchestra students are Honor Roll, straight-A students, and they work extremely hard to make our orchestra successful!

The Orchestra has amazing potential because the students are interested, eager, and talented, but the classroom is lacking in some essential components.

This year, the students have enjoyed learning how to tune their instruments, but they are always asking if they have tuned correctly. The more tools these young musicians have at their disposal, the more likely their success in music and beyond!

My Project

The young musicians in our orchestra have learned a great deal this year. In, addition to mastering musical concepts, they are growing in their confidence of tuning their own instruments. This is an invaluable skill as they continue playing their instruments.

Training one's ear to tune open strings for violin, viola, cello, and bass can be tricky at first, which is why we need the Snark Tuners to develop that sensitivity!

Once the students grow more confident in their tuning abilities, the Snark Tuner will be needed less and less and their ability to match pitch will become stronger.

Having the Snark Tuners will also allow us to transition quickly between tuning and rehearsing. Because the students will have tuned themselves so well already, rehearsal will begin faster and the students will have more time to master greater musical skills.
