My students need an AVerVision document camera to provide a visual so that each student benefits from all lessons.
The majority of my students come from low income families. I have the pleasure of having some ELL students in our classroom community. In addition, many suffer from childhood trauma. My students have grown so much over the past few months.
Many have gone from being non readers to reading at a second grade level.
They are always eager to learn new things and their "can do" spirit makes that possible. They know that their progress has come from their hard work and desire to learn.
What we are in desperate need of is a document camera. We have limited resources and the students need visuals they can actually see when we do interactive reading, our literacy lessons, and math.
A document camera would benefit my class in so many ways. We can share students' published stories. Students will have visual representations of maps, diagrams, and other text features to help them with their own research.
In our reading and writing programs I use mentor texts.
In writing, for example, I could project the text up on the board so that everyone could see the words the author chose and the text features such as speech bubbles and illustrations.
For Math, it is easier to project the workbook page on the board so my students have a visual to follow along with rather than trying to look at me, look at their workbook and follow directions. This is especially important for my ELL students who need visuals to help them understand.
We could use it for Science, STEM, and Social Studies projects where again, multiple copies of printed materials are not available.
A document camera would allow us to interact with the text as well.
