Just think, do remember what it was like to sit quietly as your teacher did the class read aloud? Do you remember that most times you never had the opportunity to share your thoughts about the book? Well in my classroom my students BOOK TALK.
I teach out in Golden Gates Florida, the back woods of the Everglades.
My students are from various cultures and of low economic levels. Through our class read aloud, my students have discovered not only a love for hearing great stories, but they have also become quite effective at sharing their thoughts, defending their ideas and challenging each other in our rigorous class book talks.
Through these novels my students will experience complex characters that lead similar lives to them. Through these characters they will learn about perseverance, and that believing in themselves will always pay off. This will be a mentor text spring boarding for the students an activity of writing and publishing their own memoir like stories.
Your donation to this project Once Upon a Time, will bring joy and excitement to my students, to have challenging books that will inspire them for years to come.
These novels will help to develop them as life long learners.
