My Students

Imaginary play helps children build their executive functioning skills. Play helps develop social, emotional, and thinking skills that will be used in every area of learning and throughout a child's school experience.

The 20 four year old students in my K-1 classroom come from diverse backgrounds.

They come to school with different languages, economic standings, and social, emotional, and educational needs. Our school is in a brand new building in Massachusetts where the students spend more than 7 hours a day playing, learning, and developing.

My Project

My students need dress up Grandpa and Grandma Dress-Up trunks of clothes and story telling puppets. Imaginary play can be done with many kinds of materials. I have bought many things for my classroom for students but the dress up clothes never seem to last very long. The dress up clothes I am requesting are of a higher quality and variety than what I have been able to provide for my students. The dress up clothes can be used in free play but they can also help bring stories to life. Along with the costumes, the story telling puppets will help the children retell familiar stories or make up their own tales.

I try to provide my students with the best resources to help foster their development.

The materials in this project will help my students grow socially, emotionally, and educationally. They will carry the skills they develop while pretending, acting, and playing with them throughout their school days and will remember the fun and silly things they did in Kindergarten.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
