Thanks to you, I received the book \"Languages and Learners: Make the Match\". \r\n\r\nI read the book and found it very useful. I highlighted many places throughout the book and took notes where I see it fits. Normally I read a book from page one, and read on till the last page. However, with this book, I treat it as a resource book or a dictionary. I jumped from one chapter to another chapter, not necessarily in the order of the book.\r\n\r\nChapter ten of the book talks about managing the learning environment. Before reading the book, I knew to set the classroom rules and expectations at the beginning of the year. After reading the book, I added new twists to create and introduce the classroom expectations. One important point is to state the expectations in the target language. Before, I was worried that young learners will not be able to get the ideas. In reality, with explanations, gestures and practices, all students could understand and recite the rules/expectations in Chinese. Chapter eleven of the book \"Bringing language to life with effective materials\" reinforced my planning and implementing a lesson on creating a grocery shopping list in Chinese and calculate the total cost. In addition to solve a real-life situation with real grocery prices, students also have to apply their math skills to figure out the total cost.","fullyFundedDate":1727976009522,"projectUrl":"project/live-and-learn-teachers-keep-learning-t/8810271/","projectTitle":"Live and Learn! Thanks to your support, my students and I received two round tables to replace eight old trapezoid desks, and the difference has been truly transformative.\r\n\r\nThe change in our classroom environment has been nothing short of remarkable. With the new round tables, the space feels more open and welcoming. This simple yet significant upgrade has improved the behavior of my students, creating a more collaborative and focused atmosphere. The desks previously divided the room in ways that hindered communication and interaction, but the round tables have made it much easier for students to work together and engage with one another.\r\n\r\nThe most significant impact, however, has been in the successful implementation of parallel teaching. With the new seating arrangement, I'm able to work more effectively with smaller groups of students simultaneously. This has allowed me to tailor instruction to meet the diverse needs of my learners, providing more individualized support and enabling students to excel in their academic journey. The collaboration between students has also flourished, as they are now able to easily share ideas, ask questions, and learn from each other.\r\n\r\nThe improvement in both academic performance and classroom dynamics has been extraordinary, and it's all thanks to you. Your donation has provided not just furniture, but the foundation for an enhanced learning environment where students feel supported and inspired.\r\n\r\nOn behalf of my students, I want to express my deepest gratitude. I am a Math Specialist at Boston Renaissance Charter Public School in Hyde Park, MA. I serve students in grades K2-2nd. I recently had my project \"Hearing for Learning and Growing\" funded which provided every student in my small group with a radio frequency headset receiver, comfortable headphones, and an FM transmitter for me. These tools enable all students to grow and succeed by providing a distraction free space for students to hear, listen, and focus on instruction. \r\n\tI teach in small groups of 2-6 students for about 20 minutes each. The students I teach are typically 1 or more grade levels below, some with disabilities or 504 plans, many with ADHD. Unfortunately, I also must teach them in busy hallways as many teachers in American schools do. Hallway teaching is difficult enough as it is, but adding other factors make it near impossible for some students to learn. These headsets you have so generously given us has been a lifeline for my students. \r\n\r\n Students are naturally excited about doing something new and they could not wait to try the headsets! They immediately loved them. Since we began wearing them every day, even passers-by have noticed a stark difference in their focus and attention to my lessons! Student focus and engagement in my instruction has increased considerably since we received them. Their learning and scores have also increased!\r\n\r\n Additionally, I am now the \"Talk of the Town\" in our school, with administrators, teachers, and other staff walking by to see what \"Mr. Nitolo is doing now\". I am constantly hearing about how I am being discussed in team meetings as an example of what can be done to help our students. Teachers often compliment my thinking outside of the box and problem solving for my students. Many have asked me for the information so they can order their own sets for their students. I have recently been asked by administrators to create another project like this one, so that all of the teachers that teach in similar settings in our building can have these incredible tools for their students.\r\n\tI am eternally grateful to Donors Choose and all of you for generously supporting our classrooms. As I introduced each item into our flexible seating rotations, students named times that they might need to use each item and how it could help them be more attentive learners. Students are given the opportunity to hold the fans, looked at them, touched them, and then use them to show the colors we are learning.
