Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach a beautiful group of pre-K students in Providence, RI. They enjoy music, gross motor activities, center play, and being a part of their school community. We do our best to adapt everything we do to meet the unique needs of our students.
I have a very diverse group of learners.
My students are medically fragile with very significant learning needs. My students are all nonverbal and non-ambulatory. Many of my students are visually impaired. I also have students who are deaf and hearing impaired. We use a lot of assistive technology to give our students a voice and access the curriculum with more independence. Preschool is all about learning through play. It is very important to have centers with appropriate material to help the students explore and learn. It would be great to improve the quality of their centers with new resources.
My Project
Our classroom radio is no longer operating properly. The cassette player doesn't work, the CD player only works when we adjust the static caused by our volume button, and we cannot connect to Bluetooth. We use our radio every single school day for music during Morning Group, Music and Movement, Music Center, and rest time. We also enjoy listening to our books and poems on tape/CD during Literacy Circle and Story Time. Activities set to music and sound are highly motivating in our classroom-especially for our kiddos with visual impairments. Our radio is such an important piece of equipment in our classroom.
