Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are hard working artists that aspire to become artistic communicators! Art is our first means of communications and my students desire to learn more about the visual arts. These small but talented artists are creative and energetic individuals in the art room.
Our school is a Title 1 school, which means that majority of our students are considered at risk and have low socioeconomic status.
It is very hard for our neighborhood families to afford extra supplies for our special classes like art. Our school works hard to motivate our students to show up every day and try their best in any subject. The students are in awe when they see their artworks displayed around the school building. I hope that these sketchbook assignments will motivate their learning at home.
My Project
My students are really inspired by many great artists that draw from observations. We have an art pull outs program at school where students that demonstrate talent or are interested in advancing in art spend an extra 45 minutes in the art classroom. During their time, they learn more about art history, Japanese printmaking, and clay making.
Art keeps these students in school and inspires them daily!
Part of the program also includes art homework assignments. These young artists are given art prompts for homework assignments to enhance their motor and creative skills. My talented students need art sketchbooks to complete their artworks at home!
