This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

At USA, we have an outdoor space that is currently used as storage. It has incredible potential as it is the outdoor view for several classrooms and has a hallway view that most students see during passing. Over the years it has gone through several transformations but none of them were sustainable enough for future leaders to continue.

The goal of this project is to create a sustainable solution for this garden space so that scholars of the future can reap the benefits as the scholars of today.

The vision for this space is to create an open and safe area for all students. Currently, there are basic, run-down, graffiti-covered metal grate tables. The wooden picnic tables would replace the current ones and create a more appealing look in the space.

The space will also serve as a garden area. Initially, there was a garden; however, it was damaged by apparent mice. A raised and separated garden bed would solve this issue and create a feasible solution. With a garden bed and beautiful picnic tables in the space, students would need only to begin planting vegetables of their choice. This would be the ultimate outcome of the garden space: to have the students grow and eat their own food and learn about independence.
