At the beginning of this school year, the district reported that many schools, including my own, had unacceptable levels of lead in the drinking water. This is a problem that has plagued our school and others for almost a decade. An Ad-Hoc committee of teachers, students, and parents was pulled together to remedy this situation as best we could. Schools began receiving Flo Water Machines with filters. However, I realized that most students at my school did not own reusable water bottles, an essential tool when using the Flo Water Machines.\r\n\r\nThanks to you, all of the students at my school now have safe, reusable water bottles (and we even have a few to spare for students who lose their original bottles). Students were excited to receive them and have been using them on a daily basis. While, we have not solved the overall problem of our school having an antiquated and dangerously old infrastructure, the fulfillment of this project has made it possible for my students to drink water safely -- thus avoiding the serious problems of lead contamination in the water. \r\n\r\nStudents were overjoyed to receive both the multi-colored water bottles and the various stickers so that they could individualize their bottles. While we know that this does not solve the problem of lead contamination in my school district's water, it does motivate our students to take critical steps needed to ensure their health and safety.
