Help me give my students pencils, pens, colored pencils (including the World of Color skin tones that they specifically asked for), markers, colored paper, sticky notes--all supplies that are so helpful with notebooks, foldables, posters, and projects!
Most people hear Palm Springs and think of it as a wealthy area. However, that's not the case for the students I serve. Our school's total enrollment is 835 students, of which 87.5% are socioeconomically disadvantaged. Rich, educational experiences and engaging lessons are what I strive to provide for each of my students.
After a year of distance learning, my students are eager to create and work with hands-on, tangible materials (paper, pencils, colored pencils, etc.) Last year, many students did not have access to supplies while working from home.
So this year, more than ever, my students are thriving with creative assignments, such as creating posters.
Our textbooks are digital, many assignments are digital, and testing is digital. Each student is issued a Chromebook for the year, so their needs are met for technology access. What our class needs is the basic supplies for class projects.
Thank you so much for your consideration in funding this project!
These materials will have a huge impact on my students' learning! We work on interactive notebooks for both English language arts and for social studies (ancient civilizations). Color and creativity allow students to engage with the content they are learning. They can use the color to organize and classify information. For each new civilization in social studies, we always begin with a map. Color allows students to create keys to identify various geographic features.
These materials will be used for hands-on, tangible learning activities to enrich the educational experiences of sixth-grade students.
