My Project

One of my favorite parts of working with students is that moment when they have found a book they love and I get to see them sink into it so well that there is a new spark in their eyes and they do not notice the other things going on around them. It is so wonderful to hear them say "What? Class is over already? I just started reading!"

One of the many strategies we, teachers, secretly employ is the idea that if we can just get them hooked on the first book in a great series, we can keep them reading through the rest of the books.

After that, they are much less reluctant and we have made readers out of them! All 25 books I am requesting are the next-book-in-a-series for books we already own. My hope is that by getting these next books, we can keep the students reading voraciously, and there is a great body of research that proves readers achieve more academically. It doesn't get better than that! Read a good book and do better in everything else? Yes Please!
