I teach in a school system where students come to us hungry to learn. Most of them want to be at school, but often are embarrassed because they did not come with school supplies.
Many of my students expect me to hand out their school supplies, because they did not get them from home.
Students want to be able to fit in like everyone else and it is my responsibility to realize that it is not their fault they don't have the school supplies, often times it is their parents who believe that teachers should supplies needed for the year.
Students need to be creative and do fun art projects. I would like to be able to activities that the art teacher should do, other than coloring a picture every week for art. It is important the students are able to be creative, using lessons learned from math and science to create. Students also need to enjoy coming into a classroom where it is inviting and stimulating. This is why I work very hard to make my classroom a place where both they and I want to be especially when we are in that room for over 35 hours a week.
