My Students

Students come into school eager to learn and explore. They are excited to talk with their friends and teacher. At this young age, children acquire new skills each and every day. My biggest challenge is getting the students' attention and keeping them engaged in an activity.

This class is comprised of thirty students in fourth and fifth grade.

We have the most unique students coming from a variety of backgrounds and cultures. There are students that are new to this country along with every ethnic background and also students with special needs.

The greatest part of this group of students is their love for learning and their enthusiasm for new experiences.

They come to school daily with a mission. They are recognized regularly for their great attitude and determination.

My Project

The novel Frindle by Andrew Clements would be a wonderful novel to share, discuss, and engage in social emotional learning. "Readers of Frindle learn how the first dictionary was created, and how words come into common usage. Language is created by the people who use it. Nick's battle of wills with Mrs. Granger may seem a bit disrespectful, but he's an inspiring character for his creativity and cleverness."

My students will practice their reading and comprehension skills, while interest is sparked by a relevant novel they can sympathize with.

The students will also gain a perspective of children appreciating people who have inspired and taught you.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
