Students can shake, tap, and play instruments as they explore rhythm, patterns, and sound. These experiences support early mathematical thinking as students count beats, recognize patterns, and follow simple rhythms while also strengthening listening and attention skills.\r\n\r\nThe instruments have also provided valuable opportunities to develop coordination and fine motor skills. Grasping, shaking, tapping, and controlling instruments requires students to use their hands and bodies with intention, building skills that support writing and other classroom activities.\r\n\r\nMusic has made an especially meaningful difference in our social-emotional learning. Students practice taking turns, listening to one another, following directions, and participating as part of a group. They are learning that their individual contributions matter while also discovering how to create something together. Music also gives students a positive and joyful way to express their emotions and regulate their energy.\r\n\r\nAs a teacher, these materials have allowed me to incorporate more movement, multisensory learning, and joyful group experiences into our day. My students are not only learning about music—they are developing academic, physical, and social skills in an environment where they can participate, explore, and have fun. I am grateful to our donors for helping make our classroom a place where every child can find their rhythm and feel successful.","fullyFundedDate":1777743354575,"projectUrl":"project/creating-rhythm-and-joy-in-the-classroom/10249874/","projectTitle":"Creating Rhythm and Joy in the Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Currie","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7206691_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1588700389163","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7206691"},{"teacherId":7206691,"projectId":10249515,"letterContent":"Thanks to our generous donors, my students now have the materials they need to turn their ideas into colorful, creative learning experiences.\r\n\r\nThe glue sticks and scented markers have made a meaningful difference in how my students participate in classroom projects. Students are able to draw, color, design, assemble, and create with greater independence while strengthening the fine motor and visual-motor skills they need for writing and other classroom tasks. Instead of simply completing an activity, they are making choices, expressing their ideas, and taking ownership of their work.\r\n\r\nThe scented markers have added an exciting sensory component to our learning experiences. The colors, scents, and hands-on nature of these materials help capture students' attention and make creative activities especially engaging. For students who benefit from multisensory learning, these experiences provide another way to connect with and remember what they are learning.\r\n\r\nAs a teacher, these materials have allowed me to incorporate more art, creativity, and hands-on learning across our classroom activities. Students can use their artwork to demonstrate their understanding, communicate their ideas, and practice important skills in a way that feels fun and meaningful.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, I have been able to give my students more opportunities to work independently, persist through challenges, and feel proud of what they create. As they work with alphabet beads, students recognize letters, build their names, experiment with spelling, and begin forming simple words. Number and shape beads provide opportunities to practice counting, sorting, patterns, and sequencing—all while students are actively creating something of their own.\r\n\r\nI have also seen the benefits of beading beyond academics. Carefully picking up and threading beads helps strengthen the fine motor skills students need for writing, cutting, and other classroom tasks. Students practice patience, concentration, and perseverance as they plan their designs and work through challenges.\r\n\r\nPerhaps most importantly, these activities have created opportunities for students to connect with one another. They are learning to share materials, take turns, help classmates, and create meaningful items such as friendship bracelets. The repetitive, hands-on nature of beading can also provide a calming experience for students who need a quiet activity to help them focus and regulate their emotions.\r\n\r\nThis project has helped me create a classroom where learning happens through creativity, exploration, and meaningful play. For some, this means needing movement. For others, it means having a quiet, safe space to calm down. Right now, we simply don't have the tools or flexible seating options to fully support these needs.\r\n\r\nI am creating a sensory and calming corner designed to help students build emotional awareness, practice self-regulation, and feel safe in our classroom.\r\nThe flexible seating options—like floor cushions and soft modular stools—will give students comfortable, choice-based seating that supports movement and reduces stress. These options are especially helpful for students who struggle to sit still or need a softer, more calming environment to focus.\r\n\r\nIn addition, the sensory tools such as fidgets, textured stones, stretchy strings, and chewable supports will provide students with appropriate ways to manage anxiety, stay focused, and self-soothe. Instead of becoming overwhelmed or disengaged, students will have access to tools that help them regulate their emotions in a positive and productive way.\r\n\r\nThe emotional awareness activity set will take this a step further by helping students identify, express, and talk about their feelings. Teaching these skills early is critical—it empowers students to communicate their needs, build relationships, and develop confidence.\r\n\r\nThis project is about more than comfort—it's about equity and access. My students deserve a classroom environment that understands and supports their social-emotional development just as much as their academic growth. With these resources, I can create a calm, structured space where every child feels seen, supported, and ready to learn.","fullyFundedDate":1778061990338,"projectUrl":"project/helping-little-learners-manage-big-feeli/10248124/","projectTitle":"Helping Little Learners Manage Big Feelings","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Currie","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7206691_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1588700389163","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7206691"},{"teacherId":528087,"projectId":10108482,"letterContent":"My students are using the kid markers, Sharpies, Sharpie Glam Pop markers, and smelly markers to make their learning more creative and exciting. Your support has placed meaningful, hands-on learning tools directly into the hands of young children who are just beginning to discover their abilities, ideas, and voices.\r\n\r\nIn our Pre-K classroom, located in a large urban Midwest community where poverty and disability often create daily challenges, school is more than a place to learn letters and numbers—it is a safe space to explore, take risks, and build confidence. The addition of sensory and art-based materials like Play-Doh has already begun expanding my students' creativity, independence, and self-esteem in powerful ways.\r\n\r\nWhat may seem like a simple material is truly transformative for young learners. As students shape, mold, pinch, and roll, they are strengthening the fine-motor muscles needed for writing and other foundational skills. Even more importantly, they are creating something that belongs entirely to them. Each tiny sculpture, pretend meal, or self-portrait gives them the opportunity to proudly say, \"I made this.\" That sense of accomplishment builds the self-belief they will carry into every future learning experience.\r\n\r\nHaving their own materials empowers students to take charge of their learning during centers and creative play. They are making choices, following their interests, and confidently trying new ideas without fear of mistakes. They are learning persistence as they reshape their creations and problem-solving as they bring their ideas to life. These are life skills that extend far beyond our classroom walls.\r\n\r\nPlay-Doh time has also become a powerful space for social-emotional growth. Students practice sharing, negotiating roles, explaining their ideas, and even stepping into leadership roles as they teach classmates new techniques. For many of my students—especially those with disabilities or limited expressive language—these sensory experiences provide a meaningful, nonverbal way to communicate, connect, and experience success.\r\n\r\n\r\nFrom the bottom of our hearts, thank you for believing in my students and investing in their bright futures.","fullyFundedDate":1764708274425,"projectUrl":"project/shaping-self-belief-in-pre-k/9935045/","projectTitle":"Shaping Self-Belief in Pre-K","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Currie","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7206691_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1588700389163","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7206691"},{"teacherId":7206691,"projectId":9307986,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generosity, our Pre-K classroom is overflowing with joy, excitement, and new learning opportunities!
