My Project

The students at my school love to read! My school's first, second, and third grade students are some of the media center's most frequent visitors. They love to read and check out books! Chapter books play an important role in helping new readers make the transition from reading picture books to reading novels, so it is important to have a selection of diverse, high-interest chapter books to capture the attention of every reader and help beginning and striving readers grow their reading skills.

This project will provide our school's readers with a variety of new chapter books that will help our primary grade readers to practice and build their decoding, reading fluency and comprehension skills while they grow their love of reading.

Some of these books are additional books in series that are already popular with our school's readers. Others that feature video game style characters and animals, which are always popular with readers and will expand the options available for our readers. I have also noticed that we don't have as many transitional chapter books with boys as the main character, so I made sure to include plenty of books featuring boys here.

I know that adding these books to our school's collection will have students lining up at the media center circulation desk so they can take them out to read! Thank you for helping us to grow our community of readers!
