These book bins and books will be used to freshen up our 1st grade classroom library. My students are deserving of a classroom library that meets them at their reading level with a variety of topics that focus on reading for fun and reading for learning!
Developing a love of reading at a young age is crucial for reading success in an elementary school classroom.
When students build a love for reading they are more likely to focus on independent reading and reading with friends which builds skills that transfer into the learning they do during whole and small group lessons. When students are excited to read it opens up a world of possibilities and knowledge for them.
My students come from a variety of different cultural backgrounds and are growing up in Washington D.C. a city full of history and avenues for learning. Reading builds an excitement for learning not only in the classroom but beyond their school walls and pushes them to want to learn more about their neighborhoods, communities, and city as a whole! My students are inquisitive little learners who are full of ideas and curiosities. Helping to build our classroom library will allow them to continue to build their excitement for learning.
