My Project

Now that spring is arriving in the Maine woods, my students are itching to get back out on the wooded trail behind our school. Year after year, my students tell me that outdoor learning is the experience they treasure the most in third grade. Although I recognize the inherent value of outdoor learning, especially for my hands-on learners, the fact is that it is not always easy in practice. Many of them don't play outside enough. It is a whole new world for some of them, and they just want to run free without taking the time to slow down and experience it fully.

These handheld pocket microscopes will allow them to explore nature, up close and personal, and awaken them to life in the forest invisible to the naked eye.

Having an activity will give them a focus, and an excuse to slow down and truly explore the wonders of the forest.
