My Project

In the last few years, we have had an influx of non-English speaking older elementary students enroll in our school. These students are proficient readers in their native languages, usually Spanish or Portuguese. Our school library began a Native Language Library last year but it is filled primarily with picture books, as they can be read by all grade levels. While it is vital that our students learn to read in English, it is often more comfortable for them to read for fun in a fluent language.

Our library currently only has one Portuguese chapter book and eight Spanish chapter books!

Some of our students have already read them multiple times as they do not have reliable transportation to access the public library. Any donated books will be barcoded and added to our school library where all students can access them!
