My Students

Donors choose has been instrumental in helping set up a recording studio for my students. We need to continue this project with headphones.

My students live in a city that is on the brink of being bankrupt.

They are surrounded by poverty and crime, but when they come to school, I offer them a safe space. I see all 800 students over the course of the year, and they are quite diverse. They are diverse in their socio-economic status, ethnic background, but most importantly in their personal goals and interests. They are wonderful to work with and oftentimes say things far more profound than I could ever imagine.

My Project

I am requesting four pairs of studio quality headphones and a headphone amplifier, so that all students can plug the headphones in at the same time. Many times I have students that come to my classroom wanting to record themselves singing or playing music that they work on in class and after school, and this will allow a group of students to be able to do this.

This project is important because learning should be facilitated not prescribed.

Working independently in a recording studio allows students to discover things for themselves as well as about themselves. They need the equipment to be able to do this.
