It is the beginning of a new school year. This will be my 28th year teaching first grade. Although I have a list of names, I have yet to meet this year's class. A lot of team building happens in the beginning. Music is a great way to foster camaraderie, because who doesn't love music on some level?
First graders love everything, and that is what I love most about teaching first grade.
Different faces come to me every year, but they all have one thing in common-the eagerness to learn.
Efficient use of time is critical in today's classroom. I'm designing "brain breaks" to incorporate music, singing, instruments, rhythm, movement, reinforcement of academic concepts and FUN. Don't forget the fun!
The egg shakers and Lummi sticks I am requesting will allow the students to to have a richer musical experience during these "brain breaks." After watching the documentary Alive Inside: A Story of Music and Memory, I feel compelled to expose our young minds to lots of music, music, music.
I have taught for a long time and have never asked for this kind of support. I've always just paid for everything myself, so thank you for considering this project!
