The students enjoyed all the books and materials during our Holidays Around the World adventure.\r\n\r\nThe kids were very excited to read and learn about a multitude of holidays celebrated within our community. We \"traveled\" to each holiday on the Polar Express, read books and completed activities pertaining to that holiday, and ended each trip with students receiving a stamp for their passport. The class was full of giggles as I checked everyone's passports (making sure it was really them in their hand drawn photo) and hole punched their golden Polar Express Ticket. As we continued this each day, students couldn't wait to see what holiday we were learning next and held on to each word as we read about holidays they knew and ones they didn't.\r\n\r\nReading is such a vital part of education and I am extremely grateful I get to share such informative books that allow me to get students curious as well as encourage reading and learning. These items have allowed me to have two fun, interactive centers in the classroom on Thursdays and Fridays. This is an incentive for student work completion, and it has been wildly popular. Most students have finished their work for the week early so they can play!\r\n\r\nThese new materials have certainly enhanced the original project. For instance, we had sand play last week. The kids did a great job keeping the sand contained in the new sensory sand trays. The extra Kinetic Sand helped the kids have enough sand to work together to create mini cities, etc. in the sand. It was fun to watch.\r\n\r\nWe also got more Play-Doh accessories from this project. 4th graders are not too old for Play Doh! They love playing together with the new Play Doh toys. In fact, this even inspired one of my students to bring in mini Play Dohs as gifts to the kids in the classroom, which was very sweet of him! Most have been getting their homework done by Wednesday so they get to playing!\r\n\r\nThe kids have a choice between two centers for their choices: an art center or an imaginative play center. This week, the two centers will be: arts and crafts (decorating a turkey) and a Kinetic Sand playset where the kids can make sand castles and pretend they are at the beach for the day.
