This project has already had an impact with my current class. I have kids with summer birthdays, and they are often overlooked during the school year. Kids with birthdays during the school year can bring treats for their class and invite classmates to their birthday parties. I was able to use some of the materials from this project to help my summer birthday kids feel special.\r\n\r\nThis project also allowed me to get some lamination sheets. The lamination at school is just so cheap in quality. The kids even notice when I laminate their work that there are bubbles, it gets cut off, etc. Laminating with these high-quality sheets made possible by this project has made my students smile. It also has inclusive characters, such as a boy with Tourette's Syndrome and a girl who is born with no arms, but don't tell her there's something she can't do! It really is a terrific book, and I know next year's students will love it. \r\n\r\nI cannot wait to get started with these novels with next year's class. The novel in which I needed a class set of is \"The War That Saved My Life\" which is the story of two children who live in London during World War 2. In order for their lives to be saved, they have to go out to the countryside to live with strangers for the duration of the war. It's really a high-interest book for the kids.\r\n\r\nThe \"half set\" requested is \"The Lemonade War\". Such a fun book! Two siblings battle it out to see who can have the best lemonade stand. \r\n\r\nI cannot wait to get started with these novels with next year's class. When figuring out what to request, it served two purposes: One, I was able to get a real idea of the supplies that would best benefit the classroom, and two, I was able to get a little spring cleaning done!\r\n\r\nA few of the items in this project are for classroom birthdays. Kids in 4th grade are often turning from 9 to 10, which is a big deal; they are in the double digit club! It makes them feel good for their teacher to acknowledge their birthday. I decorate the students desk with various items such as: rubber bracelets, stickers, candy, bookmarks, a birthday certificate, and of course, confetti! They love it!\r\n\r\nA few of the other items that I am very excited about are the plastic folders. Students use these as homework folders (things that go home and come back) and desk folders (papers we use only here at school). This helps with organization. I am also thankful for the laminating pouches and the computer mice.
