Multisensory Written Expression

Help me give my students multisensory supplies to support motivation with written expression. An iPad with Apple pencil, protective case and screen will allow me to support students in learning correct letter formation using evidence-based intervention.

My Students

I work with students in special education with a variety of needs that range from minor to severe disabilities.

Many of the students I work with have significant motor impairments that impact their ability to write with a pencil and paper.

Using a multisensory approach to improving legibility or providing assistive technology supports a student's ability to complete school work.

An iPad has multiple apps to support written expression for students who have difficulty with writing.

Prior to recommending the use of technology, it is beneficial to first provide a multisensory approach to improve writing legibility. If improvement in legibility does not occur, technology is a great accommodation.

My Project

Multisensory instruction is a way of teaching that engages more than one sense at a time. When given feedback to more than one sense, a student is able to learn and respond in a more effective manner.

For students with fine motor and visual perceptual deficits, the use of sight, hearing, movement, and touch have shown to be effective in improving legibility and overall written expression.

An iPad with a precision stylus is a great support to provide this multi-sensory approach to children who have a deficit. Students with a wide variety of abilities will benefit from the supplies in this project.

During distance learning, the iPad with stylus will be used to instruct students in a multisensory manner via teletherapy. Once school is back to normal, the equipment can be used 1:1 directly with students.
