Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Imagine three and four year olds with no dolls to play with, let alone ones that look like them.

My pre-kindergarten students growing up in an urban low-income community have diverse backgrounds and come from all over the world.

As three and four year olds, they love to interact with their peers and learn to communicate with others through engaging in dramatic play.

My Project

When I first entered my classroom we had only one doll that looked nothing like any of my students. With new multicultural dolls, my children will be able to play with toys that reflect the variety of ethnicities in our class, not just one. As they grow and learn through dramatic play, they will also learn self-worth and the value they have by playing with a dollhouse filled with dolls like them.

Without the donation of these materials for play, my students will not have access to new toys in the classroom due the budgetary constraints of our school as well as the economic strain on their families.

I cannot wait to see the smiles on the 18 faces of my children if they receive dolls and doll furniture.
