Each student was able to stay hydrated throughout the school day, which kept them more attentive physically and mentally. They took pride in having their own reusable water bottle. Students would take their bottles home to clean them and refill them and then bring them back to school the next day.\r\n\r\nHaving water bottles cut down with students asking to leave the room to go get water. It also helped keep students cool when they entered rooms that had no air-conditioning. All in all, I was happy about having this project fulfilled because it also kept students away from water fountains where germs sometimes spread and sometimes water can be contaminated due to old pipes. \r\n\r\nUnfortunately I do not have any photographs as this project was fulfilled years ago. The students are so happy with the materials and the mood at lunch as changed substantially.\r\nThe Tic Tac Toe, though simple and a throw-back, was a huge hit that has become a daily competition between students. And the Legos have helped our children create small worlds where they creatively interact and invent. One day, a student who was having a particular difficult day, came to me and asking for the Thomas trains. In no time he was able to recollect himself and focus for the rest of the day. It was remarkable.\r\nAgain, thank you for your kindness. Our students will continue to benefit from your support. Learning through sensory play is our favorite part of our learning day. When my students started using these tools, they were all beginners; most were curious and others frustrated. As the pictures will show, they are doing great, having fun and learning at their own pace; which was my main goal as their teacher.\r\nAt the beginning of the year, they all struggled with writing letters and their names; coloring and tracing were not easy tasks; I incorporated Learning through Sensory Play as a fun and relaxing way to help them develop their fine motor skills. We use playdough in many ways, they learned to squeeze and roll it into words and shapes. Lacing was tricky but their efforts reflect their diverse personalities. We used squishy balls as fun tools to help us decompress, breathe in and out when we need a break and even counting tools during math class. Playing with the blue connecting sand, takes us back to summer time at the beach. We enjoyed squeezing it and using different tools to play with the connecting sand. We had fun practicing letter recognition with letter lacing beads. My little learners' fine motor skills are improving every day and we are excited to see the fruition of their hard work.","fullyFundedDate":1728588628552,"projectUrl":"project/learn-through-sensory-play/8628106/","projectTitle":"Learn Through Sensory Play!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Monat-Dejesus","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5999503_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1728505328422","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5999503"},{"teacherId":5999503,"projectId":8628744,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous donations to our class, we are forever grateful!\r\n\r\nIt's been a long road but thanks to your support my little learners have learned to settle down and some it is still a process, surely but slowly they will all get there. They always look forward to our Social Emotional reading time! Through these books, we have learned many strategies such as deep breathing, listening to ourselves and others even when we are upset as well as many social cues that make us better friends. \r\nThe books have helped us understand that everybody gets mad or sad and that it is okay to have those feelings. Our social emotional books are part of our daily routine. Books like \"Little Lion Shares\" have made a difference in understanding the importance of sharing throughout the day but mostly during play time. \"Just Breathe Bear\" allowed us to visualize and practice deep breathing as a strategy to help us calm down when we feel upset. \"Little Dinos Don't Bite\" taught us to not bite others but different food!
