Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My diverse class of curious learners are amazing! I have 20 wonderful students. Of my 20, 5 are English Language Learners and 5 have special needs. They represent many cultural backgrounds and embrace their differences as traits that make them unique.

The various backgrounds, abilities, and language acquisition in my inclusion classroom fosters learning beyond academics.

My school is located in the heart of Mattapan, one of Boston's neighborhoods. The majority of our students come from low-income families. Over half of our students are English Language Learners and over 1/4 of our population receive Special Education services.

My Project

This summer, I was fortunate enough to receive training in order to implement the amazing program, Orton-Gillingham. The Orton-Gillingham approach to teaching reading utilizes a multi sensory approach in order to meet the needs of all learners, especially at-risk learners. This training was an amazing opportunity for me to learn fun and engaging strategies for the classroom.

In order to successfully implement Orton-Gillingham, my students need materials that foster multi sensory learning.

These materials include literature, writing utensils, kinesthetic elements, and more.

With your help, I can implement a program that meets the needs of all my learners. With these tools, my students can engage in learning that is FUN!
