Mrs. Usher's Little Ones are Becoming Fluent Readers!

My students need practice reading with fluency. These Readers' Theater scripts are perfect for Kindergartners and First Graders! They are high-interest, short, and have colorful pictures in the place of difficult words.

My Students

I am an ELL teacher in a poverty stricken city. My students are refugees and asylum seekers from war torn countries and have come here for a better life.

The children are five and six years old and melt my heart on a daily basis.

They come to school eager to learn to read like the "big kids." They love books! I am working to make sure they have high-interest, on-level books, but we do need items to help with fluency.

My Project

My little ones are from families that have come to us as refugees and asylum seekers. The families do not have the extra money to purchase books for their children to read at home. Also, many do not have transportation to bring their children to the public library. Practicing reading for fluency must happen here at school for these sweet children.

This readers' theater kit will give my students practice building fluency while also helping them to learn pacing, intonation and expression.

While we are still learning to read, this fluency kit will help us make the transition into reading to learn.
