My Project

VP elementary students in range from preschool to fifth grade. Our library hosts one class from each of those grades during any given day. There are ten tables in the library with three to four chairs each. Currently the only option to sit at the tables, are regular, four-legged chairs for every student that comes in to the library. Those chairs work for most students who have longer attention spans, and can keep their bodies calm while sitting in chairs. The reality is, there are other students who need to wiggle their bodies in some way to help their minds focus on the teacher's instructions, or the tasks assigned to them. My wiggly students then start talking to neighbors, or get up to stand at the back of the room, or even go take a water break. Every time they get up is a distraction to their classmates and me.

To help all of my students succeed, I would like to provide a flexible seating option at every table.

This could be wiggle bands around the chairs legs that allow feet to bounce and move. Another option could be some wobble stools to help those who need more than a chair band. Additionally, the cantilever chairs will work for the third through fifth graders who have a bit bigger bodies to help them bounce.

By donating to this project, you will help all of the students at Ventura Park to increase their focus. By having multiple seating options, the students would discover what type of flexible seating helps them to learn best.
