Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Being the PE teacher I teach over 600 kids, and they all come with their own amazing personalities and potentials. Our school really focuses on excellence, community and growth because we know these are key to unlocking our scholars potentials. Our kids are eager to grow as they move through school, and I am lucky enough to see that growth from kindergarten up through 5th grade.

Our kids strive to be the very best that they can be, and I am so blessed that I get to help them achieve their goals.

Each kid comes in with their own strengths and weaknesses that they may even already be aware of. We get to work on those together until we are able to push their limits and go beyond what they believed was possible. It is wonderful to see the look in a kids eyes after they finally complete a skill they had been working so hard on to master.

My Project

Physical education is so important to students' learning. Not only does PE give students a much needed chance to get moving during the day, but it also helps focus their minds for greater learning in the classroom. Students are learning to be physically literate in my class; that is, learning the fundamental movement skills they need to grow and learn more complex movement skills to achieve any movement and sport goals they have for themselves.

In order to teach students all the fundamental movement skills I need a wide variety of equipment.

The gator skin balls that are a part of my "Moving to Learn, Learning to Move!" project have almost endless possibilities. They can be used to support throwing and catching units, skills that can grow and become useful for baseball, football, water polo, Quidditch, and playing fetch with your dog. They can be used in teamwork style games that promote communication and collaboration (also a great use for the jerseys in my project). They can be used to support a kicking and trapping unit, skills that can grow and become useful in soccer, kickball, and footvolley.

Teaching kids how to enjoy being active is so important and can promote lifelong physical activity and good health. I am passionate about helping kids understand how easy it can be to start doing something simple and fun to get active and healthy. Having the tools from this project will really help me achieve all the goals I have in mind for the year and for my students.
