Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are a mixture of English and Spanish speakers, attending a two-way immersion program. They learn in both languages each day, always showing their busy bee, "bee-lingual" pride! I work as a reading specialist to support students in English phonics, fluency, and comprehension.

As part of our Black History Month celebration, we are talking about the beauty of diversity and different skin tones.

The book "More Than Peach" is a true story about an elementary school student, Bellen Woodard, who changed the conversation around the "skin color crayon". She raised awareness within her own community that there are many gorgeous skin colors, not just peach!

With this project, all first, second, and third grade reading intervention students would receive a copy of "More Than Peach". We would also work together to make a bulletin board celebrating our skin tones with Colors of the World crayons and thematic border.
