This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students live in the heart of East Los Angeles. They receive special education services for specific learning disabilities, autism, or ADHD. My students are able to participate in the general education setting because they receive accommodations and support in the general education classroom.

Some of my students are enrolled in a learning center for one class period a day where they receive foundational support in English language arts and math, complete supplemental activities relating to class content, and take extra time for assignments.

The learning center is a smaller environment that allows for individualized support and instruction. Students are able to receive needs based instruction and while maintaining access to the general education curriculum and engagement with grade level peers.

My Project

Have you ever heard a teacher say, "I just can't get them to sit still"? Some students do not need to sit still to be paying attention and others really struggle to pay attention unless they have at least a little wiggle room. I plan on giving my students the option to use a flexible seat such as stool or peanut whenever they feel that they need it in my classroom.

The flexible seats such as wobble chairs and peanut yoga balls help my students to focus by allowing them to expend some extra energy so that they can dial in on the task at hand.

The headphones will also give students the ability to focus by allowing multiple students to access the audio of a text without having other students hear what they are reading.

These chairs and headphones will be used on a daily basis and help students with their productivity in the classroom.
