Help me give my students more desks to sit in. More students have been added to our IEP caseload and we do not have enough desks for the number of students we have.

My Project

Please help give my students more desks to sit in. We recently had more students added to our IEP caseload and we do not have enough desks to accommodate all of them. I teach grade3-5 students in an emotional support classroom. Our school is a Title I school and most of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch. Many of them come from homes that have a high number of stressors, such as homelessness, hunger, and broken homes. My students have experienced trauma, homelessness, hunger, parents in jail, grandparents or great grandparents raising kids, and many other factors. All of these stressors can carry over into school causing students to have high anxiety. I want to ensure I have an inviting environment academically, socially, and emotionally. My goal is to create a welcoming and safe environment for students to learn and grow during their with me.

Each student that I work with has different needs so I want to make sure that I differentiate for each of them.

It is important for my students to feel comfortable and excited in their learning environment so they are ready to learn when they enter the classroom. My goal is to create a quiet calm down area for them to go to when needed and provide them with flexible seating throughout the classroom. I currently work at a Title 1 school which means we do not have a lot of funding. We do not have a lot of furniture in my classroom. The desks do not give students a lot of room to work. Providing my students with a new desk area will definitely help them stay focused, organized, and ready to learn.
