My Students

My school is a Title I school that sits in the heart of Washington, DC. I have a group of fourth and fifth-grade students who are fun-loving, eager to learn new things, excited about school and love to read. My classroom would be considered a melting pot of cultural heritage and social needs. Many of my students have been in the US for less than two years. They inspire me every day to do my best to address their needs.

To meet their needs, we incorporate a variety of learning strategies, group work, alternative seating, and learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met, right where they are!

My Project

These days, the kids can't code enough! We are preparing for a showcase exhibition of the Javascript animations students have been doing. The only problem is more kids want to be included! The joy of creating moving, procedurally generated art is with this generation.

The Javascript curriculum within Khan Academy gives them artistic expression while also building career skills.

The touchscreen of the Acer Travelmate B devices is wonderful for this type of coding because it allows students to manually manipulate Javascript objects.

With donors help, we can expand the program to more students and keep the momentum going to future years!
