I am requesting 2 iPads for my classroom to complete a STEM Project. The iPads will be used by my students to do research about global warming. Students will develop a research question and investigate to observe the sea level rise because of global warming. Students will also determine that salt water is denser than fresh water in this project. Students will use the iPads to gather information from UCLA Marine Science Center to give them a better understanding of why salt water is denser. They will also use the tablets to read online articles about sea level rise and the North Atlantic Current.
Receiving funding for this project will improve my students’ critical thinking skills about global warming, allow them to gather information on a global scale and improve their observation skills. My class will write a creative narrative from the perspective of an animal or person experiencing global warming while living in a certain ecosystem.
My students will also participate in a 5th Grade Mini UN that focus on causes of global warming and provide solutions to end global warming locally and globally.
After the project my students will have a better understanding of why there is such a focus on the melting of the Greenland ice sheet because of global warming.
