Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are motivated and eager to learn. After not being in a classroom for more than a year, my students are so excited to be in school. They enjoy being read to, and after they have heard books read to them, they enjoy reading them on their own. They have a wonderful knack for connecting personal experiences with the literature they have read. They are learning a second language and developing their vocabulary every day. My end in mind is to develop a love of reading that will take my students on great adventures throughout their lives.
I teach 24, first-grade, second language learners who are living in a low-income community in Los Angeles.
Our school is a Title I-funded school with students from preschool to fifth grade. At our school, we strive to instill the idea in our students that they are thinkers, leaders, and change-makers. We are the first Leader in Me school in our area, and we are very proud to be developing our future leaders, thinkers, and change makers!
My Project
Earlier in the year we learned about butterfly migration and I would like my students to experience the amazing transformation of the butterflies by observing the life cycle first hand!
My students will read about the stages of butterflies from the butterfly book Raising Monarchs and see the process from beginning to end with the life cycle posters.
I would also like my students to learn about how to grow butterfly food with the help of their parents making it a parent engagement activity. It will be so exciting for them to apply what they are learning to a real life adventure. It will also be memorable for them to release the butterflies from the class into the environment.
By having the butterfly food in their garden the students will learn how to care for living things in the environment.
I’m also asking for chair balls to help my students minimize the noise in the classroom to keep them focused. In addition, we need some pen refills for our writing.
