Last school year, 2019-2020, our staff identified 3,335 homeless students. This is 37% of our district! All of our students automatically qualify for free or reduced-price lunch due to the economic status of our community. Many of our parents are employed as field workers, where paychecks can be small or sporadic, especially in winter when there is not much work. More than half of my class speaks English as their second language, and some have special needs. With that being said, they all love to come to school and want to learn. They deserve all the resources we can give to help them to be successful in school.
We are hoping that the Dyson fan will help circulate, heat, and cool some of the air in our classroom. We specifically chose this fan because it is quieter and won't interrupt our learning.
My objective is to at least make their Montessori learning environment safe and comfortable to do hands-on learning.
To do this in our space, I need to find a way to circulate the air and make sure they don't dehydrate. I also hope it will become a place for them to escape the heat in the summer and be creative.
With these Montessori materials, like the sand numbers and alphabet letters our classroom will be able to run smoothly all year. All of these things allow us to have Montessori materials in our classroom so students are learning, creating, and growing.
