My Project

My classroom of second grade students are full of curiosity and wonder about everything they learn about. Recently I allowed them to make a choice about an important person to research. It was surprising to realize that they just didn’t know any important cultural or historical figures. Most knew Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, and Martin Luther King, but beyond those popular names, they were unfamiliar with many important people.

These biographies are picture books about high interest people who have made an impact on our world.

I want to inspire my young students to believe that they too can make a difference in the world. In addition to reading the stories, each student will choose one book to explore further to create a project presentation that will be shared with the class. These inspiring books will find a home in my classroom for years to come.
