Our elementary school is located in a rural part of Wake County in North Carolina. The town has a population of 4,591. Our school is a PreK-5th grade public school with a population of 545 students. We have two Title I blended PreK classes and two Special Education classes. Our current student demographics are 31.68% Caucasian, 30.1% African American, 32.15% Hispanic and 4.609% multi or Asian. 70.64% of our students receive free or reduced price lunch.
I teach students in grades K-5, these students are extremely talented and lucky to be at a magnet school.
Were we can cater to and nurture their talents. The students are eager to learn new dances and improve their dance technique. These students have many performance opportunities throughout the year. They love to perform and show what they've learned to their peers and families.
The students are currently learning dances and dance technique without mirrors in the classroom. The utilization of mirrors in the dance setting would be beneficial to my students because they will be able to see proper alignment, their spacing in relation to peers and how great they look dancing alone and together as a group.
Mirrors in a dance studio are not only for aesthetic purposes, they greatly help with the students self-confidence.
The ability to see their reflection while dancing allows them to make changes on their own, without needing feedback from the teacher in front of their peers. They can see proper alignments to prevent injury and correct common mistakes like pronating, supinating, and poor posture.
