Because of your support, our schoo library is now buzzing with the 2025-26 North Carolina Children's Book Award (NCCBA) nominees. These aren't just books on a shelf; they are the heart of our daily learning and the spark for some of our most meaningful conversations.\r\nHere is a glimpse into how your gift is transforming our library:\r\nSkills and Lessons from the New Texts\r\nWhile these books are fun, they are also powerful teaching tools. We are using them to dive deep into several key literacy and life skills:\r\nPerspective and Empathy: Books like Home in a Lunchbox and The Yellow Bus help students explore complex emotions and different life experiences. We practice \"walking in a character's shoes\" to build social-emotional awareness.\r\nScientific Inquiry: Titles like Zap! Clap! Boom! and Whalesong turn our reading block into a science lab. We are learning how to extract facts from narrative non-fiction—a crucial skill for informational reading.\r\nVisual Literacy: With nominees like Mac Barnett's The Three Billy Goats Gruff (illustrated by Jon Klassen), we study how illustrations can tell a different story than the words, teaching students to be \"detective readers\" who look for subtext.\r\nCritical Thinking: Since this is a \"Children's Choice\" award, students aren't just reading—they are critiquing. They are learning to evaluate a book's merits, compare it to others, and justify their opinions with evidence from the text.","fullyFundedDate":1764704276626,"projectUrl":"project/2025-26-north-carolina-childrens-book-a/9869760/","projectTitle":"2025-26 North Carolina Children's Book Award Nominees","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Flory","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2225365_orig.jpg?crop=1072,1072,x0,y321&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1574376989158","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ericaflory"},{"teacherId":7580891,"projectId":9088342,"letterContent":"The students were so excited to receive the printer and sublimation ink in May.
