Mini Inside Recess

My Students

I am an Occupational Therapist and work with students from Preschool through 12th grade, however the bulk of my students are in elementary school. Movement is so important for all students and with the increase on "every minute counts" I have seen a decrease in the available time for students to be up and moving. In addition, living in Utah presents us with the need for inside recess which further reduces the time students have to run around and play.

Movement is important in development of motor skills but also helps students attend and focus on what they are learning.

My goal is to support the schools I work with in providing opportunities for students to move throughout the day as well as those days in which students cannot go outside.

My Project

Students need to move to be able to regulate their systems and be able to focus and attend in the classroom. Utah weather is not always conducive to allow students to be outdoors and moving during recess breaks. Often times, this results in students watching movies, drawing and playing games that do not allow them to be up and moving during recess.

This project will provide portable inside recess activities to allow students in a variety of schools to move, even when confined into smaller spaces.

A variety of games can be completed with each piece of equipment allowing for new activities all year long.
